Her Story: Carrie Cain - Choosing Hope

Diagnosis
Stage 4 metastatic HER2 positive breast cancer.
Diagnosed in January 2025.
Background
I kept up with my yearly mammograms, but I missed my October 2024 mammogram.
I wasn't able to get another appointment until January 2025, and then we had snow in Louisiana (we shut down when it snows).
My biopsy was pushed to January 27, 2025, and I got word on January 30, 2025.
Treatment
The words from my oncologist were:
“It’s not a crisis, but we will treat it aggressively.”
After 6 vigorous chemotherapy treatments, I chose to have a double mastectomy.
Three weeks after my surgery, I received pathology results from my breast surgery that cancer was removed.
Because my cancer had spread beyond my breast, I had 30 sessions of radiation, followed by 14 treatments of Adjuvant infusions.
Adjuvant therapy is cancer treatment given after a primary treatment—such as surgery—to destroy microscopic, hidden cancer cells and lower the risk of the cancer returning.
Outcome
My last infusion was completed on September 18, 2026.
Results of bloodwork drawn on that day shows no cancer detected in my body.
As a matter of fact, the number said:

Today I am Cancer Free and I am a Breast Cancer Survivor.
I also know God to still preform miracles and give Him thanks, forever grateful.
